Day Two
A short walk along Salen
Bay to try and spot the elusive otter before the
track rises through woodland with views of the Sound of Mull and
Loch na Keal. See the remains of a medieval hill fort with a
stunning view point to Aros Castle, once a stronghold of the
Lords of the Isles. An afternoon walk takes us on an old drove
road with vistas over to Morvern, cascading waterfalls and
then to the lighthouse with its outlook to the Ardnamurchan
Point, the most westerly point of the British mainland.

Day Three
Transfer to the
private island of Ulva with it's Livingstone connections, the
grandfather of the explorer David Livingstone was a crofter
here. Hopefully there will be an opportunity to observe red
deer and seals in their natural habitat and we may glimpse the
Golden Eagles which are seen throughout the year over the high
ground. Explore the deserted crofts and make a visit to a
restored thatched croft house.

Day Four
A dramatic walk
along the Treshnish Headland with the sound of the Atlantic
rollers breaking on the cliffs. This walk offers fantastic sea
views, cliffs and caves. Walk along a raised beach and then
scramble down a grassy gulley to visit the Whisky Cave, the
location of an illicit still, where a turf mound was built
along the front of the cave to hide the flame of the furnace
from passing boats. An afternoon walk climbs up to the
abandoned townships of Crackaig and Glac Gugairidh and a
moorland walk with stunning views to Skye.

Day Five
An early start to
make the pilgrimage and legendary ferry crossing to Iona and
feel the influence of the past. We walk to the bay where St
Columba landed in 563AD to bring Christianity to Britain.
There is a mound here which many believe is where the coracle
he arrived in is buried. After a visit to the disused marble
quarries we make our way to the Abbey, Nunnery and Museum. Our
day ends with a short walk up Dun-I, the highest point on Iona
with views to the Paps of Jura, Dhu Heartach and Skerryvore
lighthouses

Day Six
After a leisurely
breakfast, return to Oban via the ferry and enjoy the last
magical views of Mull. But, you may well cancel all your plans
and further your stay on this enchanted isle, as there's still
so much to see and do! |
